BitIsland - Creating Bitcoin Paradise Island
It is possible to travel only using Bitcoin. We will demonstrate how Bitcoin could be used, not only as a tradable digital commodity, but also a useful traveling currency. This project is initiated in Bali, Indonesia – one of the most popular tourist destination in the world. We are targeting to convert a majority of merchants on this Island to accept Bitcoin. Soon you can come to Bali by only bringing Bitcoin.
Is there currently a solution that converts regular currency to Bitcoin at the point of sale?
Have the opportunity to advise a company in the cannabis industry where there are shackled by banking regulation and bitcoin is a perfect option, however, as of today, not many people have a way to pay with Bitcoin. Before I recommend an alternative thats less than optimal, wanted to see if anyone on this thread had heard of a way others have solved this problem (Converting currency to bitcoin at the point of sale)
Simple PHP Class to convert fiat currency value to Bitcoin
I've created a PHP class, called 'Bitcoin Helper' to aid in basic currency value conversion to Bitcoin from other fiat currencies. I'm hoping to add additional functions and ability to the class in future versions. For now, it does this (not limited to the currencies shown in this example):
include "bitcoin_helper.php"; $bh = new bitcoin_helper; echo $bh->convert_to_btc("GBP", 10); // Converts and outputs £10 (Great British Pounds) in Bitcoins echo $bh->convert_to_btc("USD", 10); // Same for $10 (United States Dollars) echo $bh->convert_to_btc("EUR", 10); // Same for €10 Euros

Has anyone ever attempted using Bitcoin for their donations/tips? Or has anyone ever thought about using it? I always thought it would be an interesting and useful form of payment for broadcasters because:
It is untraceable / you are 100% anonymous when giving/receiving tips
Chargebacks don't exist
There is no "fee" (like with PayPal or Twitch) for sending/receiving bitcoin - there is only a 1% fee for converting currency to bitcoin (so if you were to deposit or withdraw)
I don't know if viewers would ever care about tipping with Bitcoin, other than the fact that it ultimately will cost them slightly less. But the benefits for broadcasters are actually fairly sizable. What do you guys think? Any thoughts?
First time used a Bitcoin ATM at Tbilisi, Georgia to withdraw 50GEL. It took almost 30 minutes to confirm however I still believe its early days of Bitcoin it will be faster in the future and can shop directly without a need to convert to fiat currency.
Hi. Anyone in here go through it? How did you do it? How did you prove to yourself you weren't being conned? Do any local banks convert currency to bitcoins yet? Any helpful answers appreciated. Thanks.

In Fiji: Which of these crazy bit-biz ideas could possibly work: FJD$ to BC to USD$ ; Local voluntary Bot Net Mining ; Starting a local Bitcoin economy
TL;DR: I'm moving to Fiji, and selling used electronics (under the table)... how could I best use/support BitCoin? (BitCoin Newbie) Hi, I am super exited to learn about bitcoin and I want to support the project. I wish I had heard about it sooner. As I am now moving to a location where internet commerce is much less than in the USA. Next week I'm moving to Fiji indefinitely. But I would still be excited to figure out how I could use/support bitcoin in my informal electronics import/export business and other various entrepreneurial hustles that will be supporting me while I live abroad. ...But... Since I am leaving so soon... was hoping you could give me some crash course pointers - cheat sheets of what I have to do NOW before I leave the advanced technology and banking system of the US to prepare to operate in the more tech-deficient Fiji and South Pacific (which I also will not be able to legally have my own bank account... for at least a while). After hearing about bitcoins, here are the personal problems and crazy schemes that came into my head: 1) ~-~MOST IMPORTANT~-~ FJD to BC to USD Could I cost effectively turn FJD$ cash from person to person transactions to Bitcoin somehow and then deposit/convert bitcoin electronically to USD in my home bank account*? Preferably at less cost than it would be to wire the money from Fiji... Preferably also using walk in, publicly available services in Fiji (since I don't yet have my own bank in Fiji, but I do have access to some trusted friend's bank accounts if needed). *I would not mind holding some of my savings in bitcoin directly, but to be most useful to me I need a complete, inexpensive system to go from Fiji Cash to USD in a bank account. [EDIT] 1b) Bitcoin and Australian/New Zealand Dollars I am US so I personally want to transfer my money from FJD to Bitcoin to (eventually if needed) a US bank. But Fiji is much closer to the Australian and New Zealand economy, so what resources would work best for Bitcoin and Aussi/Kiwi dollars? 2) How might I go about building the groundwork for a bitcoin economy in Fiji? That is a general question but below is my situation and some initial thoughts: I am going to be selling electronics (laptops, smart phones etc) informally. So maybe I could bundle all my products with bitcoin apps, or selling bitcoin software packages and generally evangelizing it to the populace there? Also I could accept bitcoins for payment.... But the problem with that is I need to help my customers find easy ways to get bitcoin income/convert currency to bitcoins. Or perhaps offer it to tourists to avoid currency transactions. 2b) Eventually would it be possible that I could act as a local Bitcoin exchange/bank/credit union myself? That probably has some legal implications, but I might eventually become a business visa holder in Fiji... Are there any advantages I could bring to the table operating outside the US? 3) How feasible is a pool or "bot net" of laptops for mining? even though they may be on rather shaky internet, from what I understand the broadband requirements are rather small. What about if I did it in LiteCoin instead of Bitcoin? To give context: I plan to be selling used electronics, so I will at various times have a handful of laptops hanging around before I sell them. I know that power costs are the big hidden cost most newbie miners overlook... and I don't know how expensive power is in Fiji... but it seems like I could still setup the mining software and then explain it to my customers to keep it running in the background... I'm sure their bitcoin returns would be tiny, but maybe I could aggregate the bitcoins and offer the miners an incentive such as a discount at my shop. ... I know #2 and#2B and #3 are kind of "out there" but I like to dream big. I just want to know if they are totally not worth the time to even research further, or if there is a chance they could work. Even if just as a toy project. Thanks guys... let me know if there is something else I may be missing! [EDIT - Formatting]
